New Ganaway pipe bags at Blacktown

In the search for a full and rich drone sound, the City of Blacktown G1 band announce it has moved to the Ganaway hide pipe bag. Pipe Major Ainsley Hart believes that the less restricted airflow to the band's drones has resulted in a more robust drone sound, with more harmonics. PM Hart has been trailing the NZ manufactured bags for some time, and is now happy with the band's bag and moisture control set up.

Also, the band is pleased to announce and welcome tennor drummer Ross Bingham from Field Marshall Montgomery, Northern Ireland. Pipe Major Ainsley Hart and Lead drummer, Kieth Toombs hope that Ross will bring a new element of experience and expertise to the band.

Graham Hardy on board at Blacktown

Respected Sydney piping identity Graham Hardy made a welcome return to active playing this month with a decision to join the Band's team of skilled tutors.  Graham will focus on Blacktown's #3 Development Band and he brings a wealth of knowledge, expertise and plenty of good fun to the big table.  Graham and wife Merrel have been absent from the playing scene for a number of years whilst raising a young family together and it is wonderful to see him back again.

Blacktown Pipe Band now has a fully developed tuition program for players from learner through to open and invites all players regardless of age, experience or ambition to check out the Piping Program currently on offer at Blacktown.

All at Blacktown wish Graham a long, happy and productive time with the Band. Enquiries to PM Ainsley Hart

City of Blacktown #1 introduces new uniform at the Aussie Championships 2008

B1 new unifrom

Blacktown's Grade 1 band has introduced significant uniform enhancements to coincide with the band’s new sound and new creative direction.  Pipe Major Ainsley Hart is very happy with the sound that the band is putting out, partly as a result of a new set of MacCallum chanters. He said “There is strong determination within our ranks to project our fresh new image, and we believe this uniform change will turn heads…”   The new uniform which includes a very smart grey short sleeved shirst and matching socks, will at present be used only for Grade 1 competition outings. Amongst other things, the Band's management team thinks it will give the balance of the band an additional reason to strive to make it into the Grade 1 band.

The new production will be the biggest ever seen in the event’s six decade history.

The return visit – which is exclusive to Sydney – is produced by the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in association with the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust and supported by Events New South Wales. It follows the resounding success of The Edinburgh Military Tattoo – A Salute to Australia in 2005.

Ainsley Hart appointed City of Blacktown Pipe Major - March 2007

Ainsley Hart, formerly the band's Pipe Sergeant has been appointed to the important Pipe Major's post at Blacktown following the surprise resignation of Barry Gray recently. In a move which came as a surprise to some, Barry decided to quit his positions as Band President and Pipe Major to play with the Grade 4 Hawkesbury City Pipe Band thus ending a thirty year association with The City of Blacktown Pipe Band.

Barry Gray said: “Having had this position thrust upon me some 22 years ago, I must say that it has been a great relief to finally find someone to take on the responsibility that comes with the position.” “ I know that [the band] will now move in another direction and I wish Ainsley and Keith all the best in their endeavours.” “
